bio

My name is Reza Nik (pronounced niik)

My creative practice is based on research & abstraction in various mediums, a trans-disciplinary approach to creation.
I studied art history & architecture and I also teach at the faculty of architecture at the university of toronto.
I design spaces & experiences, build sculptures, make experimental films, collage sounds, and paint murals.

I like doing many things and I like to collaborate with good people.
Over the past 10 years, I have collaborated with other architects, artists, engineers, musicians, poets, writers, scientists, filmmakers, software developers, not-for-profit organizations & social justice activists.

I’ve lived, worked and studied in Toronto, Hamilton, Halifax, Buenos Aires, Vienna, Dusseldorf, Ladakh, Barcelona, Dubai, & was born in Tehran.
Being in different cities have taught me about the nuances of our built environment and the importance of questioning absolutes. I am passionate about using critical & creative thinking to address issues concerning the collective well-being of our communities through listening, conversing & experimenting.

I speak english, spanish and farsi & I attempted to learn arabic & german years ago.

My first job was at "Zellers” in scarborough where I once dressed as ‘Zeddy the mascot’ to entertain children. It was a hot summer in 1998….I was 16.

Below is a summary of some other relevant experiences since then, I cherish every single one of them.

thank you
🙏🏽
